A little while ago, I was contacted by James Wright, the editor & creative director behind Fourth & Main Journal to collaborate on a project with Melbourne’s very own Nick Murphy, aka; Chet Faker. Nick Murphy’s Chet Faker project alternates between neo-soul and minimalist house with absolute ease, his voice -absolute. F&M’s biannual publication has been devised, written, photographed & edited exclusively by a small group of young creatives and will be our in early April.

It was a great day and an absolute pleasure to work with one of Melbourne’s finest talents. A huge thank you the wonderful Kimberley Liddle and Adnan Kadric. Here’s a little sneak snap from the shoot, please follow the links to see more of Fourth & Main Journal & hear more from Chet Faker xo

Meet The Messengers

The Messengers are a 5 – 9 piece recording and touring band from Melbourne, Australia, set to hypnotize and delight. Their songs employ jangly guitars, 60’s organ and piano riffs, jaunty bass lines and sing-along harmonies. Think Exile On Main Street with a splash of Brit Pop. They perform live as if it’s their last day on earth – unsteadying hips and infusing a white-hot energy across every room they’ve shaken up.

The Messengers have risen in prominence after gaining a strong following through countless live shows. Supporting the likes of Mini Mansions (featuring members of Queens of the Stone Age), Belles Will Ring, Eagle and the Worm, Little Red, The Chords (U.K), The Fearless Vampire Killer, British India and more…After selling out their ‘We Can’t Get Along’ single launches, the band is set to release their third single ‘Song For Courtney’ produced by industry favourite Steven Schram (San Cisco, Eagle and the Worm, The Cat Empire).

The Messengers release their debut E.P April ’13. The EP was recorded over 4 days at Sound Park Studios, Northcote, Victoria; it was mixed by Steven Schram and mastered by Leon Zervos at Studios 301, Sydney.

I recently had the pleasure of popping down to Daylesford one sunny afternoon to photograph the beautiful Bianca Sciuto from Willow.

Melbourne’s very own Willow have established a sound for themselves that can only be described as raw soul. Bianca’s raspy vocals are reminiscent to the soulful divas of the late 60′s and early 70′s mixed within range to Australia’s contemporary female singer song writers. Her vocals shimmer through the sound of jangly guitars and expressive keys provided by one of Melbourne’s most talented backing bands. The release of Willow’s ‘No Sound’ already have Triple J’s taste makers singing the groups praise and with their debut show opening for Daniel Merriweather at the Corner Hotel this Saturday past .. I’m sure you’ll be hearing a lot more from this group. Head on over to Triple J’s Unearthed to hear the delightful sounds of Willow for yourself xo
